Pattern Mash: Add a New Neckline
PATTERN MASH : ADD A DIFFERENT NECKLINE TO THE TRUE ROMANCE TOP
If you love the True Romance Top and thought you'd like to make more with different necklines, this pattern mash is for you.
Choose from Scoop, Rounded, Crew or V-Neck.
This tutorial shows you what patterns you can mash & how to add them to the Banded Bishop Sleeve Top.
PATTERNS YOU CAN MASH
You can mash the necklines from the following patterns in a few easy steps.
- Allure Bell Sleeve Top (Deep Scoop, Wide Scoop, Crew or V-neck)
- Wanderlust Dress (Scoop, Rounded or Crew Neck)
- Trapeze Trio: Top, Tunic & Dress (Scoop, Rounded or Crew Neck)
Melanie used the Allure Deep Scoop Neck option for her pattern mash.
Fabric: Poly Rayon Spandex French Terry.
ADJUST IT : FRONT
YOU WILL NEED:
- True Romance Banded Top : Front (#1) & Back (#2)
- True Romance Tee** : Front (#8) & Back (#9)
- Allure Bell Sleeve Top** : Front (#1), Back (#2) & Neck Band to match; or
- Wanderlust Dress** : Front (#1), Back (#2) & Neck Band to match; or
- Trapeze Trio** : Front (#1), Back (#2) & Neck Band to match.
STEP 1: FRONT
- Place the Allure (Wanderlust or Trapeze) Front on Top of the True Romance Tee Front.
- Along the shoulder, mark where the True Romance neckline starts.
STEP 2: FRONT
- Next place the Allure (Wanderlust or Trapeze) Front on top of the True Romance Banded Front
- Align the notch from above with the neckline/shoulder on the True Romance.
- Align centre fronts.
STEP 3: FRONT
- Draw in Allure (Wanderlust or Trapeze) neckline.
- Remove the Allure Tee (Wanderlust or Trapeze).
STEP 4: FRONT
- Draw in new shoulder line from the Allure (Wanderlust or Trapeze) neckline to the True Romance shoulder/armhole corner.
- Your new front is complete.
ADJUST IT : BACK
ALLURE BACK : Repeat Steps 1-4 above for the back pieces.
TRAPEZE BACK : Repeat Steps 1-4 above for the back pieces.
WANDERLUST : The process is the same as above but the back aligns a little differently.
STEP 1: BACK
The Wanderlust Dress has a centre back seam & shaping along the back so we need to align it slightly differently.
- Place the Wanderlust Back on Top of the True Romance Tee Back.
- Armhole : Align both armholes.
- Shoulder : Align along shoulder.
- Centre back : This will sit 7mm (1/4") past the centre back of the True Romance Tee
- Along the shoulder, mark where the True Romance neckline starts.
STEP 2: BACK
- Next place the Wanderlust Back on top of the True Romance Banded Front.
- Align the notch from above with the neckline/shoulder on the True Romance.
- Again, the centre back will sit 7mm (1/4") past the centre back of the True Romance Banded Top Back.
STEP 3: BACK
- Draw in the neckline as you did on the front.
- Remove Wanderlust Back.
STEP 4: BACK
- Draw in shoulder as you did for the front.
- Your new back is complete.
CUT IT
Follow the instructions on your original True Romance Banded Top pattern pieces.
NECK BAND : Use the Neckband from the Allure (Wanderlust or Trapeze) that matches your new neckline.
SEW IT
For all necklines except the V-neck, follow the instructions in the True Romance pattern.
For V-neck:
- Follow Steps 1-12 in the True Romance first.
- Then follow the V-neck steps in the Allure pattern (pages 20-22).
- Then go back to the True Romance to complete your top from Step 17.
